Introduction
Our online psychiatric/mental health nurse practitioner track will give you the essential skills you need to complete comprehensive mental health assessments, as well as individual, family, and group psychotherapy to treat your patients properly and with compassion. The role of the psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner is to assess, diagnose and treat the mental health needs of patients across the life span, including children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. In our PMHNP program, you will develop competence in prescribing and monitoring medications used in the treatment of complex psychiatric disorders and substance abuse.
Additionally, you will develop knowledge of clinical modalities and theories used in health promotion to identify individuals and populations at risk of mental illness and psychiatric disorders. In this advanced practice nursing program, you will experience real-life clinical training and learn how to offer primary prevention in mental health, with consideration to culturally diverse, rural, and underserved populations.
