Introduction

The creation of the 2nd cycle of studies in Gerontology aims to achieve four fundamental objectives;

  • Offer an interdisciplinary scientific training capable of providing future teachers with the theoretical, methodological and practical skills necessary to respond to the problems and challenges of old age and aging in Portuguese society;
  • Promote the development of advanced research on aging, training and intervention with the elderly and their families, namely in close articulation with NEISES-C3I;
  • Contribute to regional development through the consolidation of partnerships, cooperation protocols and projects with institutions that intervene in the area of aging and old age;
  • Consolidate the educational projects of ESEP and ESSP and their strategies in terms of training provision.
