The aim of the study program Occupational Therapy is to educate and train specialists who would have comprehensive knowledge in occupational therapy, the basics of research, and practical skills required for the work of an occupational therapist, for the analysis of a person’s occupational performance, and for the formation of the aims and objectives of occupational therapy.

The Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy is a four-year programme designed to provide you with the skills and knowledge to work as a physiotherapist in a number of different settings, depending on your interests. Throughout the Physiotherapy degree, which is taught at our campus in Madrid, you will have access to top class facilities including a simulated hospital, structure and function lab, physio labs and more. During the first two years, you will study the bachelor’s degree in English and from the third year onwards in Spanish.

The study program “Kinesiology and Special Motility” has the task to form specialists in the prevention and rehabilitation of functional sequelae following various pathologies, as well as in other areas of human motion. After attending the bachelor study cycle, the students should be able to: prove good theoretical knowledge in the domain; prove clinical competence in assessment, physical treatment planning, and its implementation; identify the functional assessment methods specific to various pathologies; etc.

The objective of the course is to train graduates in physical therapy who are qualified to carry out in their own right and independently, or in collaboration with other professionals, functional assessment, as well as activities directed at the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of disabilities through the use of instrumental therapies, manual therapies, massage therapy, cognitive and psychomotor therapies. These activities are aimed at functional recovery and rehabilitation of motor functions.

Physiotherapy is a subject in a health care area focusing on diagnostics, functional therapy of movement system disorders. Physiotherapy also influences the functions of the other systems including the psychical one throughout the movement and other physiotherapeutic processes. The Program offers a 3-year study program for secondary school with final state exam graduates. The program is divided into 6 semesters and the students take courses in the areas which are necessary for the physiotherapeutic treatment such as biology, anatomy, physiology, pathology, pathophysiology, biophysics, biomechanics, and kinesiology. The courses based on physiotherapies such as Examination and Therapeutic Methods in Physiotherapy, Introduction in Rehabilitation, Physical Therapy, Balneology, and others (Internal Medicine, Surgery, Traumatology and Orthopaedics, Gynecology, Neurology, Psychiatry, Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Orthotics-Prosthetics) as well as the courses of prophylactic treatment such as Basics of Ergotherapy, Remedial physical education or Adapted PE for Handicaped People form the essential part of the Study program. The Study program puts the emphasis on gaining practical skills which are required during the physiotherapeutic procedures and treatment which take place under specialist supervision at the medical institutions. The curricular internship under specialist supervision is also a part of the Study program and is required every year. When the student gains 180 ECTS credits he or she takes the Final State Exam including Bachelor Thesis Defence, theoretical exams, and practical medical institution exams.

The Physiotherapy programme teaches students to assess and treat patients with temporary or long-term physical injuries, movement disorders or disabilities. The goal is to achieve the highest possible degree of recovery, activity, participation and quality of life. Graduates may work as an independent physiotherapist or as a member of a healthcare team. There are currently more than 200 students from over 30 different countries studying Physiotherapy at Hanze UAS. The majority of students studying Physiotherapy is European. However, many students also come from Asia, the United States of America, Australia and the Middle East.

These studies aim to train professionals with scientific preparation and sufficient training to describe, identify, treat and compare health problems that can be answered from physiotherapy. In this way, the titled people will be able to cure, recover, rehabilitate and adapt people affected by deterioration, functional limitations, disabilities or changes in physical function and in the state of health, produced as a result of an injury, illness or other cause, always under the consideration of the individual in its triple dimension: biological, psychological and social.
