The Surgical Technology program prepares students to work as valuable members of a surgical team, which most commonly includes surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses. Surgical Technologists assist in surgical procedures under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel.

The Health Professionals Management AAS for Pharmacy Technicians is designed to prepare health professionals to expand their knowledge and skill base potentially leading to a supervisory and/or training position. Additional credits, based on professional experience and other courses completed, may be applied on a case-by-case basis, not to exceed 45 credits total.

The objective of the Surgical Technology degree is to offer the student an opportunity to become an integral member of the surgical team as well as an allied health professional. This program will utilize a combination of classroom, lab, and clinical experiences to facilitate student learning. Multiple teaching delivery methods will cover concepts such as; the principles of asepsis, the application of sterile technique, and surgical pharmacology. Students will demonstrate competency knowledge of perioperative case management prior to entering a clinical internship. The clinical experience will continue the education of the student by offering hands-on surgical patient care through multiple surgical service specialties. Students will work under the auspice of the surgeon as well as the surgical team to gain the scrub experience required for eligibility to sit for the national CST (Certified Surgical Technologist exam) credentialing exam offered through the NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting).

Radiologic Technology is an area of medicine that uses ionizing radiation to provide diagnostic images of a patient’s body under the supervision of a Radiologist. Radiologic technologists learn to position patients for x-ray exams, provide radiation safety for patients and others, and produce a quality diagnostic image. The curriculum features a combination of didactic coursework, hands-on lab work, and supervised clinical experience providing a solid foundation in the field of Radiology services. The Radiologic Technology program provides the knowledge that will enable students to enter the workforce as entry-level technologists. The didactic and clinical learning experiences require approximately 40 hours of participation per week in the second year of the program. Educational facilities located within Schoolcraft College include state-of-art classrooms and clinical training resources designed to promote an exceptional educational experience.

Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) is a branch of diagnostic medical imaging. DMS, also called ultrasonography or sonography, is a diagnostic medical procedure that uses high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound) to produce dynamic visual images of organs, tissues, or blood flow inside the body. Sonography is a radiation-free imaging modality. The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program (DMS) provides the knowledge that will enable students to enter the workforce as entry-level sonographers. The program includes didactic, directed hands-on laboratory and professionally supervised clinical training in general sonography (defined as the abdomen, obstetric, gynecologic, superficial organs, and other appropriate areas).

The health information technology program will prepare the student to be a health information technician. The technician is responsible for performing tasks related to the use, analysis, validation, presentation, abstracting, coding, storage, security, retrieval, quality measurement, and control of healthcare data in paper-based, hybrid, and/or electronic health record systems.

The emergency medical technology paramedic program prepares competent entry-level Paramedics in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains with or without exit points at the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician and/or Emergency Medical Technician, and/or Emergency Medical Responder levels. A combination of lecture, laboratory, clinical, and field experience will be utilized to fulfill all training requirements.

The biomedical engineering technologist (BMET) program is designed to develop technicians able to maintain and service medical electronic equipment in hospitals, pathological and hematological laboratories, and industries engaged in the manufacture and sale of medical electronic equipment.

Medical insurance, billing, and coding are critical components of the healthcare system. Without either field, the healthcare industry would be unable to efficiently transmit important data, and healthcare providers would find it difficult to be paid for their services. Berkeley College's degree program in Medical Insurance, Billing, and Coding prepares students to manage vast amounts of medical insurance and billing information. This program prepares students with the important business and technology skills needed for positions in medical insurance, billing, and coding. Courses provide students with the required knowledge and skills to become nationally certified.

Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running smoothly. A medical assistant takes vital signs, prepares patients for and assists physicians during examinations, collects and prepares laboratory specimens, performs basic laboratory tests on the premises, schedules appointments, bills patients, fills out insurance forms, and much more. Berkeley College’s Medical Assistant Certificate and Associate in Applied Science degree programs prepare students to enter the high-demand field of healthcare and to work in a variety of settings, including physicians’ offices, hospitals, and other professional healthcare facilities. Graduates are prepared to meet both the clinical and administrative challenges of today’s rapidly changing healthcare environment.

Nursing courses are open only to students who are officially admitted to the nursing career ladder curriculum. Licensed practical nurses who are licensed in Michigan and are interested in becoming registered nurses (RNs) may apply to complete the second year of the associate in applied science (AAS) degree nursing program. The associate degree nursing program is approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This program provides advanced nursing theory and clinical practice in caring for adults, children, and families to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in hospitals, long-term care facilities, medical offices, home health, and other community settings.

This associate degree program provides occupational therapy theory and clinical practice and prepares graduates for entry-level positions in a variety of healthcare and community settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, schools, and skilled nursing facilities.

The Berkeley College Health Sciences programs are a great way to enter the in-demand healthcare field. You’ll have the option of choosing a certificate program in Patient Care Technician or Surgical Processing Technician or opting for the Associate’s degree program in Health Sciences. Many students complete one of the certificate programs and then continue on toward a degree to broaden their career options and increase their earning potential.

The Associate Degree Nursing Program provides students with educational opportunities for personal and intellectual development and a career to help meet the community's health care needs. MCC's program prepares graduates for beginning staff-level positions as registered nurses.
