Nursing courses are open only to students who are officially admitted to the nursing career ladder curriculum. Licensed practical nurses who are licensed in Michigan and are interested in becoming registered nurses (RNs) may apply to complete the second year of the associate in applied science (AAS) degree nursing program. The associate degree nursing program is approved by the Michigan Board of Nursing and the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN). This program provides advanced nursing theory and clinical practice in caring for adults, children, and families to prepare graduates for entry-level positions in hospitals, long-term care facilities, medical offices, home health, and other community settings.

Students who satisfactorily complete the associate degree nursing program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination-Registered Nurse (NCLEX-RN) as a step in obtaining licensure as a registered nurse (RN).

The Associate Degree Nursing Program at NCC prepares graduates to assume entry-level positions as registered nurses who provide safe, competent nursing care in the various settings of our dynamic, evolving healthcare environment. These settings can include but are not limited to hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, long-term care, home care, clinics, physicians' offices, the community, and many other agencies. Successful completion of the program qualifies graduates to apply for licensure as registered nurses and to take the National Council Licensure Exam for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN)®. This examination is used by the State Board of Nursing to assess the entry-level nursing competence of candidates for licensure as registered nurses. When the candidate successfully completes the NCLEX-RN ® exam, a license is issued.
