Program Description

Logan University’s Doctorate of Health Professions Education (DHPE) is focused on advancing health care through the education process. It is designed to provide health professionals the tools necessary to be successful educators in their chosen health profession. This online program provides busy working professionals the flexibility to complete their doctorate degree and maintain their current employment. Coursework is designed to provide practical knowledge and skills in the areas of curriculum development, design, and assessment, academic leadership, education technology, statistics and research. Graduates of the program become health educators, university faculty or university administrators.

This degree is offered completely online.

Who Should Enroll?

Allopathic physicians, chiropractors, dentists, nurses, nutritionists, osteopathic physicians, technologists, therapists and other health professionals. Individuals with a master’s degree or above who wish to obtain a doctoral degree in education, and increase their knowledge and skills in delivering healthcare professions education. This degree is designed for those who are invested in educating superior health professionals. Health professions clinical educators are in high demand. Graduates of this program will be able to take their clinical expertise and translate it into the field of higher education to prepare tomorrow’s practitioners.

Graduation Requirements

  • Complete all coursework, as required, with a B or higher
  • Maintain a 3.0 Cumulative Grade Point Average
  • Maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress
  • Pay all tuition or fees
  • Complete an approved Practical Application Research Project
  • Publish in a peer-reviewed journal, industry respected scholarly journal, or present a presentation or poster at a professional conference
  • Present at Logan University Research Day (in person or via video)

Total credit requirement 60: Year One - 29 Credit hours, Year Two - 26 Credit hours, Year Three - 5 Credit hours

Time to Degree Completion

Students may start coursework at three different times per year (January, May, or September). Students must finish coursework within seven calendar years from the date of initial enrollment. Any student wishing to extend the seven-year completion requirement must secure the approval of the Dean of the College of Health Sciences.
