Key learning outcomes

Graduates acquire knowledge of biomedical disciplines, the structure and functions of individual body organs, diagnostic and preventive procedures, ability to set a plan of treatment and carry it out. Graduates must demonstrate profound knowledge of biomedical disciplines, causation of diseases of individual body systems, sepsis and antisepsis, ability to organise and prove the preventive treatment, medical ethics, legal standards in accordance with the medical profession. They demonstrate knowledge of pharmacotherapy, first aid in case of the sudden failure of organs, mainly on an infectious and inflammatory basis, failure of the immune system, diagnosis and treatment of tumours and genetically-determined diseases. Graduates are able to carry out examination, indicate, and interpret results, which are necessary for setting up the correct diagnosis, provide young and adult patients with medical care, communicate with patients and their relatives, and cooperate with other medical specialists, use methods of electronic communication and information technologies in at least one world language, evaluate the date provided to the patients, and carry out the overall examination. Also, graduates use knowledge of modern technologies in medical practice, set the steps of examination leading to diagnosis. They make a use of modern communication tools to acquire new information and apply it into the practice, and present results at medical conferences.

Secondary school leaving certificate (Bachelor's degree programme), Bachelor Diploma (Master's degree programme) + Admission Procedure. Regulations: Higher Education Act, Regulations on Study and Examinations, Regulations on Admission Procedure.

Profile of the programme

This six-year full-time field of Master studies prepares the graduates for the profession of a doctor. It is completed with the degree of Doctor of General Medicine. In the course of the first two years, curriculum principally includes theoretical courses (Biochemistry, Anatomy, Histology, Physiology, etc.). The 3rd year of studies comprises preclinical courses and is preparatory for the study of clinical courses. In the course of the 4th and 5th year the student gradually passes through internships at the individual clinics and departments. The last year of studies is devoted to a pre-graduation practical training during which students work at clinics and departments under the supervision of experienced doctors. In the course of the studies students also complete nine weeks of a vocational practical training during which they gradually become acquainted with the management and running of health-care facilities and practical procedures. Studies are completed with a rigorous state examination in five subjects.

Occupational profiles of graduates with examples

Graduates find employment in government and private health facilities. Graduates should be able to independently perform, indicate and interpret the results of examinations, which are necessary for making diagnosis. Graduates are able to use modern communication means to obtain new information related to their profession and acquired knowledge in practice.
