Overview
The Master of Public Health (MPH) Program is the professional degree offered by the University of Louisville School of Public Health and Information Sciences (SPHIS). SPHIS is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH). Academic and applied research, along with community involvement, provides a foundation for practical solutions that address the full range of challenges in protecting the health of the public. With an MPH degree from SPHIS, you become a part of that foundation.

Concentrations are available in these specialty areas of public health: biostatistics, epidemiology, health promotion & behavior, global public health/maternal & child health, and health policy.
GRE not mandate except for MPH - Biostatistics
A dynamic collaboration with the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness provides first-hand opportunities to address public health challenges in a top-20 U.S. city.
Students applying to the MPH program can specify a concentration at the time of application or, if they choose, apply without designating a concentration. The MPH curriculum is designed to allow completion of the core curriculum in the first semester allowing students to explore each of the core areas without designating a concentration. Students admitted without designating a concentration must select their concentrations by December 1st of the first semester. This applies to all concentrations except for those students interested in global health.
Practice & Integrative Learning Experience
MPH students are required to complete a practice experience during their graduate program. Students have the ability to seek out a practice experience site or select from a list of sites. It is a goal of the MPH program to assure that the practice experience combines didactic learning with practical experience to enable the student to achieve the public health competencies that are necessary to carry out the core functions of public health.
Admission Information
Who should apply? Those seeking careers in public health come from varied backgrounds including, but not limited to: medicine, dentistry, nursing, the life sciences, the social sciences, business, and law.
Applicants must apply online through the Centralized Application Service for Public Health (SOPHAS) at www.sophas.org followed by the Graduate School Office of Admissions (SIGS) http://louisville.edu/graduate/apply
Three letters of recommendation written within the last twelve months.
Official transcripts of all degrees.
One-page personal statement written by the application that is a clear, substantive description of his or her goals in public health, noting any professional or research experience.
GRE required for MPH - Biostatistics concentration only
International applicants: Foreign credential evaluation of all degrees from non-U.S. institutions.
If candidates' primary language is not English, one of the following English language tests is required: TOEFL - 90 or, IELTS - 6.5
Students applying with a concentration in Population Health Management or Health Policy must be interviewed by the HMSS Health Leadership Committee.
Foreign Medical Graduate Applicants
Foreign medical graduates that wish to apply to the MPH program must complete one of two processes. The appropriate process is related to whether or not the applicant has completed Steps 1 and 2 of the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE):
Foreign Medical Graduates who have passed Steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE, must provide Confirmation of ECFMG® Certification, using Form 236A from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certification, by submitting their USMLE/ECFMG identification number and date of birth to Vicki Lewis at vicki.lewis@louisville.edu.
The fee for the request is $40 and payable to ECFMG.
Foreign Medical Graduates who have not passed Steps 1 and 2 of the USMLE, must submit the following to apply to the MPH program:
Official GRE scores;
Official transcripts that have been certified by the World Education Services (WES) or an equivalent foreign credentialing agency; and,
TOEFL scores for students whose language of instruction was not English.

The School of Public Health and Information Sciences is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH).
The University of Louisville is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
Non-residents MPH Students Pay Resident Tuition
Tuition scholarships are available to students who enroll in the MPH program and are from one of the seven border states of Kentucky: Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia. Through this program, students receive a scholarship that pays the difference between resident and non-resident tuition rates.
