goals
The Master's Degree in Virology is an official study sponsored by the Spanish Society of Virology (SEV) and is the only official Master's Degree that exists in Spain exclusively on virology.
The Faculties of Biological Sciences, Pharmacy, Medicine and Veterinary participate in the University Master's Degree. Teaching is taught by renowned professors and specialists in their field. The teaching is face-to-face, being compulsory to attend the classes. Classes are taught in Spanish and occasionally in English. The Practices and the Final Master's Project are carried out in important research centers, both national and international.
The general objectives of the University Master's Degree are:
- Know the biology of viruses.
- Understand their interaction and the consequences on the cells and tissues of the hosts, as well as the defense mechanisms against infection.
- Know the methodology used to study and characterize viruses.
- To introduce the student to the applications that Virology has in the different fields of health and research.
After acquiring general knowledge, the subjects are structured in the optional module of specialties, so that the student can design his or her own career.
The specific objectives are:
- Know which viruses cause infections in man, animals, plants and microorganisms.
- Understand the process of viral infection in living beings, its diagnosis, prevention and control.

The Master is specifically aimed at graduates / graduates in Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy, Biological Sciences, Agronomy, Biotechnology and related sciences.
Why study this master?
This degree is designed to train students who want to continue their studies to obtain the Doctorate and for virology specialists from research centers, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology industries, etc.
Admission requirements for masters
Non-enabling university masters
- Be in possession of any of the following titles:
- Spanish official university degree .
- Title issued by an institution of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) and empowering in the country of issue for access to Master's education.
- Title of educational systems outside the EHEA that empowers in the country of issuance for access to Master's education, homologated or declared equivalent to the degree and academic level of Degree or Degree by the Ministry of Education and Vocational Training . In case of lacking the mentioned homologation or equivalency, it will be necessary to have authorization or access permission granted by this University.
- Or be carrying out studies leading to the obtaining of any of the previous degrees during the course in which the pre-registration is carried out and be in a position to prove the obtaining of the same before the date established in the corresponding call (see href = "https: //www.ucm.es/requisitos-de-admision-a-masteres ).
- In addition, students from foreign educational systems, whose mother tongue is different from Spanish, must prove level B2 of the Spanish language (or higher) .
